I am currently running a Calculated Kinetics D.O.G.T.A.G. Optic plate. I would almost say this thing is a necessity for M&P optics pistols. It’s truly incredible and blocks the blast of carbon that comes from the “witness” hole on top of the M&P slides (so dumb remove that garbage S&W). Well it’s more durable and better made than the stock optic plates, however I do believe it’s even thinner which gets the optic closer to the slide. That said, these Night Fision FO sights whilst they are EXTREMELY well built and super rugged, I maybe get a 1/8 cowitness lol. Like it’s maybe a 1/7 at best with my Holosun 507C ACSS Vulcan (which is essentially a 507C X2 but with a chevron). I’m gonna try my Holosun 508T and see if it’s any better of a sight picture, but man is this one extremely low. It’s ALMOST unusable as super fast speeds; I have to really try and focus on getting it aligned and that takes time. The front FO sight is amazing construction, super durable although it would be nice to see a very thin but durable covering over the top of the FO rod to protect the FO rod. Other sights like the L2DCombat sights do this and still maintain a SUPER bright FO however the L2D’s aren’t made for M&P’s and the rear notch is ridiculously wide. I get it it’s wide for fast sight alignment but the Night Fision notch I feel like could be a tadddddd wider. I also love the serrations, however it would be AWESOME to have the rear sight emulate MORE of the “triangular” design of the other Night Fision sights because that triangular style rear is so much better because it allows you to see a lot more down the sight picture periphery. And I really like that, that’s why I almost always go with Ameriglo style sights because of the triangular shape. With optics this REALLY matters in my opinion, because you really want that extra sight periphery view as it’s just less distraction while using the optic, but for BUIS that triangular shape really helps focus the eye directly to the “apex” aka the front sight. Night Fision PLEASEEEEEE start making your sights with irons forward in mind. We’re gonna start seeing A-LOT more irons forward setups as the standard as more and more shooters put optics on their guns and become more proficient. BUIS are exactly that, backups! Having them in front makes it so much easier to use the optics, BUT still allows you to have irons ready to go. That said I get the M&P doesn’t have a normal style irons forward dovetail (they’re usually milled for Glock rear dovetails) but it would be nice if SOMEONE (eyes on you Night Fision) would break the trend, and start making sights for irons forward for M&P. It wouldn’t be hard just make it so that the irons don’t come anymore forward or rearward than just covering the dovetail and overhanging by a mm or two. That way they can be run irons rear OR forward. That said, I do absolutely recommend these FO sights as they’re the only FO sights for M&P that I could find that doesn’t have that periphery blocking rounded rear sight style like say a Dawson precision. These Night Fision FO’s have a semi triangular slant style rear, but I still wish it was a littttttle more triangular and wider of a notch. Nonetheless this might be one of the brightest FO front sights I’ve ever used. Well done 👍
